ApulSoft apShaper: A versatile harmonic distortion plugin for Windows and Mac
Harmonic distortion is a type of audio effect that adds harmonics to the original signal, creating a richer and warmer sound. Harmonic distortion can be used to enhance instruments, vocals, drums, synths, and more. However, not all harmonic distortion plugins are created equal. Some may introduce unwanted noise or aliasing artifacts, while others may lack flexibility and control.
That's why ApulSoft has developed apShaper, a harmonic distortion plugin that combines a waveshaper with three filter bands and various modulation options. apShaper can simulate multiple types of distortion, including tape and tube saturation, wave folding, and analog bit crushing. It also uses sophisticated algorithms to reduce aliasing and digital artifacts, resulting in a smooth and natural sound.
Features and benefits of apShaper
apShaper offers many features and benefits for producers, musicians, and sound designers who want to add harmonic distortion to their audio signals. Here are some of them:
Five high-quality waveshaping engines: apShaper comes with five shaper shaping mechanisms, from adding harmonic distortion to freely configurable polygonal folding. The waveshaping engines are harmonic, tube, saturation, steps, and wavefold. Each engine has its own character and parameters that can be adjusted to suit different needs and tastes.
Extremely low aliasing: apShaper uses numerical integration to approximate continuous-time (idealized analog) waveshaping. This reduces digital artifacts more than traditional oversampling could, especially if the transfer curve is not smooth (wave folding/bit crushing). The process only adds 7 samples of latency to the signal which means apShaper can be used for real-time performance.
Three multi-type filters: apShaper allows you to apply three filter bands before and/or after waveshaping. The filter bands are taken directly from ApulSoft apQualizr2 and offer the same excellent quality without compressing frequencies at high frequencies. The filter types include low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, notch, peak, shelf, tilt shelf, variable-slope low-pass, variable-slope high-pass, variable-slope band-pass, variable-slope notch. You can also choose from four types of guitar amp tone stack simulations for classic bass/mid/treble tone shaping.
Multiple types of saturation soft-knee: apShaper offers four types of saturation soft-knee: tape, classic, distortion and hyper. These modes can be used to smooth out the transition between linear and nonlinear regions of the transfer curve. Tape mode simulates the compression and saturation characteristics of analog tape machines. Classic mode is a simple soft clipper with a smooth curve. Distortion mode is a hard clipper with a sharp curve. Hyper mode is a special mode that adds extra harmonics to the signal.
The steps engine: The steps engine allows you to adjust the number of bits in the signal. This can create a bit crushing effect that reduces the resolution and dynamic range of the signal. You can also modulate the number of bits with an LFO or a dynamics detector for more creative effects.
The wavefold engine: The wavefold engine allows you to fold the waveform at user-defined breakpoints. This can create a wave folding effect that adds complex harmonics and overtones to the signal. You can also adjust the symmetry and asymmetry of the breakpoints for more variety.
The direct channel: apShaper allows you to mix the original signal with the shaped signal using a dry/wet knob. You can also independently filter the direct channel using one of the filter bands for more control over the final sound.
Graphical editing of filter parameters on the spectrum display: apShaper provides a zoomable frequency spectrum display that shows the input and output signals as well as the filter curves. You can edit the filter parameters by dragging the nodes on the curves or by using the knobs below them.
f0-synced waveform display: apShaper also provides a zoomable waveform display that shows the input and output signals as ec8f644aee
